Can I put 2 memory sticks with different brands in my computer?

I have 4 memory slots on my motherboard. Right now I have two 1gb Corsair memory sticks. I wanna get a new PNY 2gb memory stick. Is that gonna be okay? Will there be a problem?

  1. there should be no problem at all
  2. Generally, I suggest using the same brand and model. But as long as it's quality RAM, give it a shot.
  3. will be fine as long as the speed is the same or faster, they will then run at the speed of the slowest memory.
  4. no problem at all as long as they have the same mghz like 667 or 800 or 1066
  5. That shouldn't be a problem, it should work ok. But if you want the best performance then you'll want to get 2 1GB sticks of the same brand and model instead of 1 2GB stick if your motherboard supports dual channel memory (most modern ones do) and I'm assuming if it already has 2 1GB Corsair sticks then it probably is dual channel. The reason for this is because in dual channel mode (which requires 2 sticks of the same type) both sticks of memory can be read at the same time doubling the maximum theoretical transfer rate (MTTR). Sticks of memory are usually sold in pairs for this reason. http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/133
  6. I have done this before with no problems, they should be the same type of ram and the same speed.
