Why do USB memory sticks of a given size vary so greatly in price range?

Have been shopping for 4-Gig and 8-Gig USB memory sticks and the prices vary greatly. For example have found 8-Gigabyte sticks for between $32 and $260. What paramaters of the stick determine its value and which of them are key to pay attention to?

1. paying for the name mostly T_T but some have other features they stick in there
2. The key to a good stick is sustained read/write speeds. The higher priced ones will load / unload large files much more quickly. Be aware that manufacturers of these products frequently publish read/write access times that do not reflect real world conditions - they publish quick read/write speeds for bytes of data, not huge files - there is a BIG difference. I personally use Corsair but there are other good brands out there.
