Using a flash drive as extra memory. Is it the same as adding actual memory sticks? I saw on a video a simple way to add memory to your XP machine. Using a flash drive, and either use some or all of the flash memory. Is it the same as adding memory sticks, or is it different? I have an 8gb flash drive. How much more memory would i put in my machine, if i were to use that as the extra memory? Would it be 8gb? I don't think my machine could handle more than 2gb if i added memory sticks. Is Flash Memory different in an MP3 Player? I've owned an IPOD mini for the last few years. I've always been under the impression that 4 GB = 1,000 songs. I just received an MP3 player as a gift. The features list it as having a 1,000 song capacity. Yet, it only has a 2 GB capacity. It is a flash memory, however. Is this different, somehow? Notice I said I had an Ipod MINI, not nano. I know, it's old.
What happens when flash memory wears out? Flash memory has a certain number of read and write cycles - what happens when these have been expended? Does the memory give any warning to its impending doom? What happens when the r/w cycles have been expended? Is the data still accessible? I'm referring to the type of memory used in USB drives, CF/SD cards, and SSDs. I'm not too worried about replacing it, I'm more worried about the state of the data.

When choosing a Xd flash memory for my camera, does the camera speed matter? I'm going to buy a Xd-flash memory card in a few days, but as the world will have it, there are two types, M and H. Although I've found a bargain online for a type H memory card, I just need to know one thing: will it be a possibility that I buy a fastspeed H card, but my camera itself won't be able to keep up with the speed of the card?
